At any given time there are more than 20 million students on college campuses across the United States. Those staggering figures also represent an amazing opportunity, because the college years are such an influential time. Students are searching for the purpose in their life and are open to alternate life-philosophies—including the Gospel— more than at any other time in their lives.
That’s just one of the reasons we are so excited about working with college students. When we think about the opportunities to influence these young men and women for the Kingdom of God, we’re reminded of Jesus’ words: When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:36).
As we engage with these young adults— sharing the truth of the Gospel with them, and training them in what it means to be a disciple of Christ—we have the privilege of seeing them grow from sheep to shepherds. Those that God enables us to reach, in turn reach out to others.
What begins on college campuses doesn’t end there. The spiritual truths and skills students learn are things they can take with them and apply for the rest of their lives.
As you read through the stories in this issue of One-to-One, my prayer is that you will join us in thanking God for what He is doing on college campuses all across the country. And may you be encouraged by the fact that what God is doing through The Navigators on these campuses is just the beginning of developing men and women who will labor for a lifetime to advance God’s Kingdom.
